Located along British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast, Princess Louisa Inlet is considered the best example of a southern fjord in North America. This roadless, undeveloped inlet is a premiere destination for boaters, water-sport adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts throughout the Pacific Northwest.

In 2019, three lots of land covering 4.5 kilometres (three miles) of waterfront and more than 800 hectares of pristine watershed along the south side of the inlet went up for sale. The BC Parks Foundation reached out to British Columbians, Canadians and visitors to the area, creating a community of park supporters. With the help of this passionate community, including incredible organizations like MapleCross, the Foundation was able to raise the $3 million it needed to purchase the land and protect it, forever.

Princess Louisa Inlet is one of Canada’s most breathtaking destinations. It is home to grizzly bears, mountain goats, eagles, the threatened marbled murrelets, northern goshawk, lichen and moss communities, marine life, and other flora and fauna.

The Princess Louisa International Society currently helps fund an annual park ranger position in the area, providing long-term stewardship capacity so that your legacy will be looked after into the future.

Now that the land has been purchased, the Foundation is working closely with BC Parks and the Sechelt First Nations in order to create the terms of its protection. The goal is to transfer the land to BC Parks for conversion into a Class A Provincial Park, or land trust properties.

A more far reaching goal the BC Parks Foundation has is to protect even more of the inlet, by bundling this land with adjoining Crown lands, properties with conservation covenants and the existing park, to create 9,000 hectares of protected area.

The marine portion of the inlet already has federal protection designations. If this long-term goal is successful, it will mean protecting this iconic inlet from mountain top to ocean floor, creating a unique model of whole ecosystem preservation.
